Russias Artur Beterbiev merged the light heavyweight division in Philadelphia using a stoppage of Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
The 34-year-old knocked on his down opponent that was Ukrainian three times before the competition was stopped by referee Gary Rosato with 11 minutes left.
Beterbiev defended his International Boxing Federation crown and captured the World Boxing Council belt of Gvozdyk.
This was the very first world title bout because fighter Patrick Day.
Super welterweight Day, that suffered a brain injury after being knocked from Charles Conwell in Chicago last weekend, was honoured before the event with a 10-bell salute.
Beterbiev, who rents in Montreal, Canada, today has 15 wins from 15 specialist fights after beating his previously unbeaten rival at the Liacouras Center.
His next fight is going to be a defence against another fighter, Chinas Meng Fanlong.
