Wales forwards Adam Beard and Cory Hill set to miss Rugby World Cup opener

Wales are set to be without locks Adam Beard and Cory Hill for their World Cup opener.

Ospreys didn’t travel to Japan and Beard had his appendix removed in Wales.
And Hill is continuing his recovery from a stress fracture in his legremaining on goal to be accessible for a consultation using Australia on September 29.
“We have picked up a few injuries and there’s a concern in the moment with the next rows,” explained Wales head coach Warren Gatland.
“He [Beard] will be expecting to return into Japan on Thursday.
“He’s probably not likely to be available for selection for the Georgia game, but we’re hopeful – and the medics are confident – that he will be available for selection for the Australia game”
It suggests that Jake Ball will be skipper Alun Wyn Jones’ spouse against Georgia, together with flanker Aaron Shingler providing cap.
On Hill, Gatland added:”They [medics] are convinced that he is going to be available for selection against Australia.
“He has been out of the boot and on the practice area now, even though he was not doing any running.
“Hopefully, then Georgia match he will be back training and available for selection.”
Fly-half Rhys Patchell, meanwhile, has recently completed some work that was non-contact after suffering concussion throughout Wales’ World Cup warm-up game against Ireland.
“He’s gone through the HIA [head trauma examination ] protocols,” said Gatland.
“He was training this morning, just doing some non-contact stuff at this stage.
“We will facilitate him back into touch work later in the week, so making certain we proceed through the protocols and make sure he’s 100 percent and available for selection.”
In which they’ll be based until Thursday the Wales squad are enjoying temperatures of 30 levels and unbroken sunshine in the Japanese city of Kitakyushu.
They have also received a warm welcome, together with hundreds of schoolchildren while flags and banners of support are draped all over town, greeting their arrival at the airport.
“It is absolutely fantastic,” said Gatland. “They have embraced Wales, the team and the culture, even putting the red dragon on their search motors.
“For your gamers to see all the flags and posters around the city has been very humbling. It’s amazing that the town has got behind us.
“There are so many similarities between Kitakyushu and Wales in terms of the foundation of the mining sector and the vents.
“There is definitely a relationship there, and hopefully we can continue to build on that.”
