Since 2009, he’s only made two thirds and got bounced from the fourth round this past year by John Millman. I think Federer isn’t a fantastic bet when playing on the hardcourt and I would rather have a flyer on Juan Martin Del Potro (+2000) or John Isner (+6600) compared to banking on Fed to win me money.

Outside of Serena Williams winning three direct in 2012 to 2014, Flushing Meadows hasn’t seen a player triumph in back-to-back years since Monica Seles at 1991-92.
There are a number of worthy contenders on top of the list like Wimbledon winner Simona Halep (+700), French Open winner Ashleigh Barty (+1000) and??2017 U.S. Open winner Sloane Stephens (+1800) but it’s such a crapshoot with women’s tennis. You might be better off waiting until the closing and only taking the underdog, which is a technique which has worked in several of the previous five major women’s tennis tournaments.
