MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR TUESDAY: JESSICA EYE NEXT FOR VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO

We just saw the UFC guys’s flyweight title defended by Henry Cejudo together with his TKO win over TJ Dillashaw within last weekend at UFC on ESPN+ 1, and now it loooks like the women’s flyweight name is going to be defended shortly, as well.
According to UFC president Dana White, who talked to reporters following the UFC’s debut event on ESPN at Brooklyn, New York, the world’s leading MMA company is set to provide Jessica Eye another title shot at 125lbs. She will take on UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko for the name later this season, though White didn’t state when the belt could be defended. With the UFC running three or four cards a month up until June, the advertising had a great deal of holes to match and Shevchenko vs. Eye makes sense as a principal event for a Fight Night card ESPN+, or perhaps even as a co-main event to get a pay-per-view.
White told reporters about Eye getting the next title shot after somebody asked him if Joanne Calderwood — who predicted Eye out following her decision win over Ariane Lipski — was in line to fight for the name. There were rumors Eye was going to be next for Shevchenko as they both fought on precisely the exact same UFC 231 cardand we understand that’s indeed true.
Eye (14-6, 1 NC) has rescued her career by making the move down to flyweight. After fighting a 1-5, 1 NC record as a bantamweight, Eye is now 3-0 at 125lbs. She has conquered Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark and Katlyn Chookagian in her last three outings in order to acquire the title shot in the UFC’s new division. The fact she has gone the distance in eight of her 10 UFC struggles is about going up from a finisher such as Shevchenko who probably has to be halted in order to conquer, but Eye has looked improved at flyweight along with her obtaining the next title shot makes sense.
Shevchenko (16-3) needed a 4-2 record as a bantamweight in the UFC, but her two losses came against champion Amanda Nunes and she had to make a move down in order to get another title shot. Moving down to 125lbs has been demonstrated to be a fantastic move for her since she destroyed Priscila Cachoeira in her UFC flyweight debut to find a title shot, then beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 to maintain the empty belt. Outside of the Nunes fights, Shevchenko has looked unstoppable in the Octagon, and it is difficult to see anyone at 125lbs giving her much of a fight when she’s so much beyond everyone else in the branch so far as ability goes.
Obviously this struggle is not 100 percent official yet, but it seems likely to be officially announced shortly, and once it does the oddsmakers shouldn’t have a lot of trouble lining the fight. I am fully expecting Shevchenko for a huge favorite however again, opening at least around -500 and possibly being steamed even greater. Shevchenko always receives a tremendous amount of aid from bettors while Eye traditionally doesnt get much of any, so this isn’t a difficult struggle to line. As great as Eye has appeared in her latest few fights since falling down from bantamweight, it’s hard to see that her being the boxer to shoot Shevchenko’s belt.
