Rhys Patchell ‘fine’ for World Cup after concussion scare in Wales’ defeat to Ireland

Rhys Patchell is going to be appropriate for the World Cup despite suffering his third concussion in a calendar year, insists Warren Gatland.
The 26-year-old fly-half abandoned the pitch throughout the first half of Wales’ 19-10 defeat in Ireland on Saturday to get a head-injury assessment (HIA) after colliding with CJ Stander in the build-up Ireland’s very first try.
Head trainer Gatland confessed on Saturday evening that Patchell will be evaluated from the medics in the upcoming few days, with all the tribe flying on Wednesday to Japan.
With Gareth Anscombe recovering from knee surgery and Dan and Patchell Biggar the two playmakers for the World Cup, wales have two fly-halves within their group.
Asked if Patchell would be on that trip, Gatland said:”Patchell will be fine for this. He appears okay from the changing rooms.
“He has just got to be analyzed in the upcoming few days. We are going to speak with the medics about this and find out how he fares over the next few days.”
Patchell has endured a wretched run of harm fortune, having fought two concussions and a hamstring off across the class of the last 12 months.
He has acquitted himself well in Wales’ warm-up matches, but faces a race against time to be fit for its World Cup opener against Georgia.
Asked if he had any concerns with two fly-halves in his group, Gatland added:”We will see how he comes out of the next couple of days.
“He definitely deserves some good luck because he’s gone well. And the thing is he went low and that is often where the concussions occur , when players go low and the tackler gets struck by a knee or a hip.
“So that’s something we are going to have to keep seeing with World Rugby.”
