Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock says he is concerned about Manchester City’s defence, describing a few of the gamers as”not strong enough”
City suffered their first defeat of the year as Norwich beat them 3-2 at Carrow Road.
They were Aymeric Laporte who will miss following knee surgery.
Warnock told Sky Sports News:”You seem at Manchester City’s seat at the rear, it’s not strong enough and defences acquire you names.
“The players that Liverpool have to come in their assault will always win them matches, they’re more than capable of scoring goals.
“So I fear for Manchester City, I always worried that [Vincent] Kompany leaving could be a huge loss to them, not just on the pitch but at and about the training ground, the mentality and understanding he has.
“He didn’t play lots of games for City, however, it had been the big games when he was wanted.”
City’s shock defeat to Norwich has left them five points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, and Warnock is impressed with all all the potency of Jurgen Klopp’s team.
“Everybody always says, when Liverpool lose one of the front three, they are in big trouble because they won’t score goals. I consider it the other way round.
“I believe Liverpool’s pay in defence – they have got [Dejan] Lovren, they have got [Joe] Gomez – who are seated on the bench that aren’t playing and who are capable of playing at the first team very comfortably.”
Their manager Pep Guardiola dismissed suggestions his side have a glaring weakness in their defence, although john Stones and Nicolas Otamendi started the game against Norwich.
He told Sky Sports after the defeat:”It’s a partnership that has played a lot. We’ve got Rodri and Fernandinho who can perform there in scenarios and it’s not a concern. Things happen.”
