Tottenham’s Troy Parrott needs first-team football to play senior level for Ireland, says Mick McCarthy

Tottenham striker Troy Parrott impressed again for Republic of Ireland U21s however Mick McCarthy admits he will have to play first-team football for Spurs to force his way into the country’s senior side.
Before returning the bench to score twice on Tuesday, parrott scored the winner for Ireland U21s on his own debut on Friday.
The 17-year-old has been an essential part of Tottenham tour, featuring against Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich and is now Spurs’ second recognised striker behind Harry Kane.
But, McCarthy insists Parrott needs Tottenham first-team actions before he could be selected for Ireland’s senior side, stating:”Get in the very first group.
“You do realise the U21s and also the U23s where he’s playing with is far-removed from where we are playing, do not you? There’s a big difference.
“If I think he is correct, I will take him. We are going to attempt to get him observed. It’s interesting – when he hadn’t come on and scored his objectives, I wonder what will the questions be had he not come on, because Stephen’s not played with him?
“If somebody makes you a replacement and you come on a do this, deliver that kind of performance, that is what it is all about. He is a good kid and I’m excited by him.”
Although Parrott has not appeared for Spurs in the Premier League this season, he is to make his competitive debut from the Carabao Cup against Colchester United in September.
The child can also be set to advance in national level together with his current U21s manager Stephen Kenny stepping up to handle the mature side after their Euro 2020 effort, which McCarthy states should enable a natural progression from childhood level.
McCarthy stated:”You are all talking about these coming through into the first team. When he [Kenny] gets the job – and it won’t be that long now – he will be placed.
“In the meantime, it is me that’s come and may have taken the backlash had drawn in Gibraltar or lost in Gibraltar, and that has protected him .
“Hopefully we qualify, reach the Euros and it’s going to be regarded as a excellent choice to have achieved exactly what we did.”
