The Artur Beterbiev of russia merged the heavyweight division at Philadelphia with a stoppage of Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
The 34-year-old knocked on his down Ukrainian opponent three times until referee Gary Rosato ceased the contest .
Beterbiev defended his International Boxing Federation crown and also captured the World Boxing Council belt of Gvozdyk.
This was the very first world title bout since boxer Patrick Day.
American welterweight Day, that suffered a brain injury after being pumped from Charles Conwell at Chicago last weekend, was honoured prior to the major event.
Beterbiev, who trains in Montreal, Canada, now has 15 wins from 15 professional battles after defeating his formerly unbeaten rival at the Liacouras Center.
